Mid of May, the University of Hohenheim hosted the G7 Conference of Agriculture Ministers. The focus was on food security and the global food crisis caused by the war in Ukraine. In addition to this central topic, the conference also offered the opportunity to highlight other internationally significant aspects of a sustainable future for agriculture. Global agriculture is confronted with challenges such as climate change and population growth on the one hand and the need to avoid negative impacts on soil, water, and air, as well as to use natural resources efficiently and reduce climate impacts on the other hand.

The conference program for the international guests was complemented by a tour across the campus of the University of Hohenheim, where various relevant research projects for sustainable agriculture had the opportunity to present their objectives. The NOcsPS project was also presented, which deals with the opportunities and effects of establishing Agriculture 4.0 at various levels. In Agriculture 4.0, mineral fertilizers are used to maintain soil fertility with high biomass yields while at the same time avoiding the use of synthetic chemical pesticides. This approach is intended to combine societal demands for more environmentally and nature-friendly production with the provision of sufficient, high-quality food, which is important for food security and food safety.
