A Perfect Kick-Off at Hannover Messe 2024:
Federal Minister of Education and Research, Bettina Stark-Watzinger, Visited the "Agricultural Systems of the Future" at the "Bioeconomy Exhibition"
The BMBF's funding initiative, "Agricultural Systems of the Future" (AdZ), marked its presence once again at this year's Bioeconomy Exhibition of Hannover Messe—the world's largest industrial trade fair. Federal Minister of Education and Research, Bettina Stark-Watzinger, visited the stand to kick off the event and heard a presentation of the latest research results from DAKIS and NOcsPS. The stand welcomed visitors from April 22 to 26 at Hannover Messe 2024.
During her tour, Federal Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger expressed particular interest in the advanced sensor technology of the NOcsPS drones and the DAKIS EROSPOT Web App— examples of how digitalization, AI, and the use of state-of-the-art technology are driving the transformation of agriculture.
In the context of the NOcsPS project, the University of Hohenheim showcased two drones equipped with specialized sensor technology. High-resolution images of the plant population captured by multispectral cameras serve as the underlying data for AI-powered image analysis. These data provide a spatial accuracy of up to 2 cm and have various implications, such as the creation of fertilizer application maps or the monitoring of plant diseases. Furthermore, the spatial data are employed to control remotely operated machines or autonomous field robots. Over the medium to long term, such systems could enable the automation of field monitoring and the standardized provision of crucial data for precision farming.
Additionally, the DAKIS project demonstrated a live version of the new EROSPOT, a web-based application designed to assess the water erosion potential on agricultural lands, offering farmers recommendations on where to implement erosion-reducing practices. DAKIS also unveiled a prototype software aimed at assisting farmers and policymakers in designing biodiversity measures, by incorporating ecosystem services, biodiversity, and resource efficiency into agricultural decision-making processes.
The AdZ shared the "Bioeconomy Exhibition" stand with 20 ongoing research projects funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), represented by its coordination team and the DAKIS and NOcsPS consortia.
